Fielding Positions III: Examples

To finish this mini-series on fielding positions, I thought we’d take a look at the pitch as a whole and perhaps take a brief look at why we might change the overall field for different bowlers. We’ve seen why we have fielders in various places and looked at some variations we have for different bowlers. We now need to see how that all fits together and why we set a field in a particular way.

We’re going to set different fields for different bowlers, different batsman and different match situations. In this article I’ll be looking primarily at the bowlers but hopefully you should get some insight into the other two as well.

Let’s start, as we should, with a field we might set for an opening bowler:
