We were very pleased to be able to welcome The Pearmen back to Torquay after a highly-enjoyable game against them in 2010. It was an auspicious occasion for both sides, as it marked our 50th game and was our opposition’s 20th year of touring. The weather was not what we had hoped for, but even so we managed to get a full game in and for a while it looked like the result might be quite close.
I lost the toss, as ever, and we were sent out to field. Cary and Thompson soon got stuck into our bowling, and Thompson in particular was soon making merry with some well-timed legside shots. There were 100 runs on the board before we got our first wicket – James bowling Thompson for 65 – and they came up in under 12 overs. Cary was out shortly afterwards, bowled by Si, but Alak and Kumar took over and got stuck in. As the score approached 200 it seemed that the best bit of captaincy of the day was to limit the game to 20 overs a side!
